Rising Coal Dependency
One Liner: India's hydroelectricity output declined significantly in the last 38 years, prompting increased dependence on coal-fired power, hindering renewable energy growth, amidst challenges with erratic rainfall and meeting climate goals.
India’s Energy Challenges: On March 31 hydro output dropped by 16.3%, coinciding with a decrease in renewables' share from 11.8% to 11.3%. A five-year low in reservoir levels may prolong reduced hydro output, increasing coal reliance before monsoon. K.J.
