Mount Ibu Erupts Again
The Tribune
One Liner: Stationed in the stronghold of the Halmahera Island, Mt Ibu is touted as one of Indonesia’s most active volcanos. It has erupted 21000 times last year. This comes as no surprise as the country is situated in the Pacific “Ring of Fire” rendering it vulnerable to constant seismic turbulence.
Mt Ibu Sets Off, Precipitating Smoke 5km High. The set-off occurred at 9:12 am and lasted about 5 minutes. No immediate casualties were reported. On account of the dense smoke of fog created by the mountain, however, officials have recommended that civilians use face masks to protect themselves against flaking ash. This comes after another eruption from Mt Ibu last Saturday, which prompted authorities to raise alert levels to two in a four-tier system.
